My new opera: The Stonewall National Monument in LEGO Bricks

Hi! I’m thrilled to share my latest project: a LEGO brick representation of the Stonewall National Monument in New York City. Built with approximately 3,750 LEGO pieces, this project pays tribute to a historic site that marks the birthplace of the modern LGBTQIA+ rights movement. It’s now live on the LEGO Ideas platform, and it needs support to become a reality!

A monument to history and progress

The Stonewall National Monument, designated by President Barack Obama in 2016, stands as a powerful symbol of the fight for equality and the ongoing journey toward acceptance and dignity for all. With this model, I’ve aimed to capture the essence of this iconic location as it appears today, one year before its 10th anniversary in 2026.
Here’s what you’ll find in my work:

  • The Stonewall Inn, still operating as a bar under its historic name.
  • Christopher Street, complete with rainbow-colored pedestrian crosswalks and the brown street sign.
  • Christopher Park, home to the Gay Liberation sculpture by George Segal and commemorative signs on the fence.
  • The building at 59 Christopher Street, once the headquarters of the Mattachine Society, now reimagined with: a bar, the apartment of a trans person LEGO fan, and the office of an LGBTQIA+ helpline.

Representation matters: vibrant cast of minifigures!

You already know I believe that representing the diversity of sexual orientations and gender identities is crucial to fostering a more educated, sensitive, and welcoming society over time. I created 13 diverse minifigures:

  • A marriage proposal between two men (Todd & Ryan, characters from my previous work, Handcrafted Houseboat).
  • A couple of women walking with their baby.
  • A transgender woman enjoying her LEGO-filled apartment.
  • An African-American couple visiting the monument with their child.
  • A drag queen performing.
  • A bartender and two customers on a date at the Stonewall bar.
  • An activist working for an LGBTQIA+ helpline.

Why I created this opera and why I believe it would be a precious LEGO set

I intended this work as a celebration of diversity and equality. Every brick tells a story, honoring those who fought for acceptance and dignity. It’s also a reminder of the importance of these values in today’s world.
I believe this project aligns perfectly with LEGO’s mission to build a better world, promoting inclusivity, respect, and love for diversity. It’s designed to attract not only LEGO fans but also anyone who wants to celebrate human rights through art.

If you want you can help me to make this dream a reality. The “Stonewall National Monument” project is now live on the LEGO Ideas platform. With enough votes, it could become an official LEGO set! By supporting this project, you can help share a joyful and meaningful message with the world.

To cast votes you can use this link or visit LEGO Ideas and search for “Stonewall National Monument”.

Together, we could bring this inspiring project to life.

Thank for your support.
Love,
